Litigation and Appeals

Milwaukee, Wisconsin Litigation and Appeals Attorneys

In addition to the recognized skills of our attorneys at trial, Hale & Wagner, S.C. attorneys possess equal proficiency in Wisconsin state and federal appellate court proceedings. We handle appeals with the same teamwork applied to our trial practice. Because every matter handled at the trial level may be appealed, our team provides litigation support and legal analysis on procedural and substantive issues that may arise during the course of representation. We review the actions and decisions of the presiding judge to determine if a legal rule was misapplied, incorrect jury instructions were given, or evidence was improperly allowed or excluded at trial. We identify grounds for appeal and prepare briefs and information to present to the court. Our attorneys closely follow current developments in the law and evaluate the effects of those changes for our clients.

If you would like additional information regarding our practice and how we can help you in litigating a dispute or appealing a civil matter, contact the law office of Hale & Wagner today.

Asserting and Protecting Rights - Appellate Law

Our office represents clients in the following kinds of cases involving litigation and appeals:

Litigation, Appeals, and a Relief from Judgment

Mere dissatisfaction with a verdict is not grounds for an appeal. In order to determine if you have grounds for appeal, it's first necessary to determine if a principle or rule of procedural justice was violated at trial. In some instances, our lawyers may be able to dismiss or overturn a verdict without filing an appeal through a relief from judgment or "judgment notwithstanding the verdict" (JNOV). While rare, if a verdict against you is the result of an error on the part of a judge or a plaintiff's attorney, it may be possible to have it overturned or dismissed without having to file an appeal.
